Key Stage 3 (KS3) — Year 8 & 9

Build a strong foundation and get ahead of the GCSE curriculum. Students develop essential skills in computational thinking, programming, algorithms, data representation and computer systems, while learning how to approach problems logically and systematically. At Sutton STEM Tutors, we encourage Year 9 students to begin the GCSE Computer Science curriculum where appropriate. With our accelerated programme, students can work through the GCSE specification during Years 9 and 10, with the aim of being fully prepared to sit their GCSE examination at the end of Year 10. This pathway is particularly suited to motivated students who demonstrate strong ability and a genuine interest in Computer Science. Starting earlier gives students additional time to develop their programming and problem-solving skills while allowing greater opportunity for examination practice and consolidation.

GCSE Computer Science — Year 10 & 11

Master the specification. Strengthen programming skills. Excel in examinations. Tailored to the OCR and AQA specifications, our GCSE Computer Science programme provides comprehensive coverage of the curriculum, including programming, algorithms, data representation, computer systems, networks, cybersecurity, databases, and ethical, legal and environmental considerations. For students following our accelerated pathway, the GCSE curriculum begins in Year 9, with the aim of completing the course and sitting the GCSE examination at the end of Year 10. At Sutton STEM Tutors, we also register eligible students privately to sit their GCSE Computer Science examination in Year 10 and provide structured preparation to ensure they are fully equipped for the examination. For students continuing through Year 11, the full GCSE specification will be completed by the autumn term, allowing the remainder of the academic year to focus on consolidation, targeted revision, examination technique and intensive past-paper practice. Students will receive extensive practice with exam-style and challenging unfamiliar questions, learning how to identify exactly what each question requires and how to construct precise, high-scoring answers. Drawing on extensive knowledge of examination requirements and question styles, Mr Alvin will guide students through the techniques required to approach different question types with confidence. Tailor-made questions and targeted practice will be used to address individual weaknesses and maximise examination performance. The spring and summer terms will focus intensively on revision, past papers, model answers and examination strategy, helping students perform consistently under examination conditions.

A-Level Computer Science

Develop advanced technical expertise and prepare for outstanding examination performance. Our A-Level Computer Science programme provides rigorous preparation across the major examination boards, developing both the theoretical knowledge and advanced programming skills required for success at A-Level. Students will study key areas including programming, algorithms, data structures, computational thinking, computer systems, data representation, networking, databases and computational theory, alongside extensive practice applying these concepts to unfamiliar problems. The first-year specification will be substantially covered by the spring term, with the summer term focusing primarily on preparation for school mock examinations and UCAS prediction examinations. With extensive knowledge of examination requirements and question styles, Mr Alvin will teach students how to approach complex A-Level questions systematically, construct precise technical explanations and solve challenging programming and algorithmic problems. Students will receive tailor-made examination questions, programming exercises and targeted revision materials, ensuring that preparation is closely aligned with their individual strengths, weaknesses and academic goals. During the summer holidays following the first year, students will continue with structured tuition, with a two-week holiday period mutually agreed between both parties. Second-year teaching will begin during the summer term of the first year and continue through to the spring term of Year 13. The full A-Level specification will be completed by the end of the spring term, allowing the final summer term to be dedicated to intensive examination practice, past papers, targeted revision and final preparation.
